The US Life Sciences labor market strengthened sharply in Q2 2026, with employers posting 418,095 job ads, up 15.1% from Q1 2026 and 20.7% from Q2 2025. The pace of improvement exceeded the gradual stabilization pattern seen in prior quarters and marked the strongest broad-based advance in the current cycle.
All three major sub-sectors expanded. Research, Testing and Medical Labs (RTM) increased 31.1% year over year, Pharmaceutical & Medicine Manufacturing (PMM) rose 20.8%, and Medical Devices & Equipment (MDE) increased 6.7%. On a sequential basis, PMM advanced 16.8%, MDE 15.9%, and RTM 13.2%, indicating
that the rebound extended beyond research and services into manufacturing and device-related hiring.
Hiring demand remained concentrated in execution-critical capabilities, including pharmaceuticals, marketing, project management, continuous improvement, biotechnology, medical devices, clinical trials, and auditing. Capital-market conditions also became more constructive, with stronger M&A activity, improved IPO performance among select issuers, and a substantial decline in announced workforce reductions compared with both Q1 and the prior-year quarter.
Overall, Q2 represented a meaningful shift in labor-market direction. The breadth of the increase suggests more than a temporary improvement, although capital discipline and selective hiring remain firmly in place. The next test will be whether employers sustain this higher level of demand through Q3.
